Why Financial Wellness?

Financial health lays the foundation for a stable and secure community.

However, in New Orleans more than 50% of households have delinquent debt, compared to 35% nationally, lowering the median credit score in the city to 647, 40 points below the national average. Credit scores directly impact the ability of families to accumulate assets and generational wealth.

As a result, 65% of families in New Orleans are financially insecure, and nearly 70% of households of color lack the savings necessary to survive a disruption for even three months. This puts the majority of our community in a perilous position from social, environmental, or economic disruption.

Our Approach

Entrepreneur Empowerment Program

Our flagship Entrepreneur Empowerment Program starts in June each year and runs for 12 months. Each cohort works with over 100 early-stage small business owners annually. It is the largest and most comprehensive mentorship and training small business incubator in Louisiana. Over 90% of these business owners are women of color from low and moderate-income households.

This program tackles the barriers that business owners of color face in accessing the capital critical to strengthening and expanding their businesses.
